Stat of the Day #6

Montreal Canadiens Draft Picks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft:

  • 1st round pick
  • 3rd round pick
  • 4th round pick (from Anaheim in exchange for Kyle Chipchura)
  • 5th round pick
  • 6th round pick
  • 7th round pick
  • Montreal originally had two 2nd round picks. One was their regular pick. That pick was traded to the Florida Panthers for Dominic Moore. The second 2nd round pick was a compensatory pick for not signing 1st round pick David Fischer. This 2nd round pick went to the Islanders along with a conditional 2012 5th round pick for James Wisniewski.

Montreal’s 4th round pick accompanied Ben Maxwell to Atlanta in exchange for Brent Sopel and Nigel Dawes. Pro Sports Transactions is not sure whether Montreal traded Anaheim’s 4th round pick or its own. There is a possibility that the pick depends on which 4th rounder is higher, Anaheim’s or Montreal’s, but that’s speculation on my part.

This Montreal Gazette piece has Pierre Gauthier claiming that the Habs acquired a 2nd round pick in the O’Byrne trade:

“You don’t like to give up draft choices, but we received a second-round pick when we traded Ryan O’Byrne, so it evens out,” Gauthier said.

I am not sure whether Gauthier misspoke, is confused or believed that Michael Bournival (the prospect the Habs acquired for O’Byrne), a 2010 3rd round pick of the Avs, was a 2nd rounder.

I cannot find anything that reports that the Canadiens received anything in addition to Bournival.
